Why orchids?
Orchids have been used for medicinal purposes throughout history to stop bleeding, promote wound healing, and as an anticonvulsant. Nowadays, various orchid extracts are recognized for their potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, and anti-aging properties for the skin, due to the high levels of anthocyanins, imbrication, mucilage, and unsaturated fatty acids found in different kinds of orchid extracts.
How are freeze-dried orchids different?
Freeze drying, also known as lyophilization or cryodesiccation, is a low-temperature dehydration process that involves freezing the product and reducing pressure to remove the ice by sublimation. Unlike most conventional methods that use heat to evaporate water, freeze-drying operates at low temperatures, preserving our orchids’ nutritional value and heat-sensitive compounds. Freezing inhibits chemical and microbiological processes, significantly delaying the orchids’ deterioration and extending their shelf life without any additives, while allowing us to collect the hydrosols of the orchids during rehydration, at which point it is stored, and ready to be used.
